Players each begin with 5 lives. Each player must have a dice tray as well as 5d6
. To begin the game, each player Publicly rolls their dice. The player with the highest sum of dice goes first. In the event of a tie, the highest scoring players continue to roll off until a winner can be determined. This player goes first. Each round works as follows:
- All players roll their dice in Secret, making note of the results of their roll. If it is the first round, the player who won the roll off goes first. In subsequent rounds, the player to the left of the previous starting player go first.
- On their turn, a player must make a wager on the total number of any given dice on the table. The first player can make any wager that they wish. For example: they can claim that among the table there are at least 3 twos. This would mean that of the rolled dice at least 3 of them have a value of 2.
- The player that follows them to the left must now raise the wager. This can be done in one of three ways:
- They can make a wager on the total of a higher value dice (following the previous example, the next player could claim that there are 2 fours)
- They can make a wager containing a higher total of dice (4 twos (or even 4 ones))
- They can make a wager that combines the previous two conditions (4 fives for example)
- Once this wager has been made, another player can accuse the wager-maker of lying. If no one at the table wants to call their bluff, wager-making continues to the left.
- If a player accuses the wager-maker of lying, all dice are revealed. One of three things will be the case:
- The wager was false
- The wager was true, but not exact (wager made for 5 sixes, but there were actually 6 of them)
- The wager was spot-on
- The following actions take place for the above possibilities:
- The wager-maker loses a dice moving forward
- The accuser loses a dice moving forward
- Everyone but the wager-maker loses a dice moving forward
- If a player loses all of their dice, they are out of the game.
- If two players are left and have one die each, wagers instead are based on the sum of the dice, where the sum must increase on progressive wagers.
- The last player left with dice wins the game

SETUP
Since this game has the DM acting as the ‘house’, it can be played with only a single player, though it’s always more fun when a couple of people play. The DM will need three d20s (ideally with one of them being larger than the other). Anyone who is playing will need as many d12’s as they have – the more the better.
PLAYING
This game is played like blackjack, where a bet is required for every round. Before any dice are rolled, whoever wants to play places their bet in front of them. Once bets are made, the house/DM rolls their large d20. The number they roll becomes the target number.
The house then rolls their other two d20’s. Whichever of these is closer to the target number without going over becomes the house’s roll. If neither of the house’s rolls are under the target number, the house busts. In this case, all a player needs to do is not bust in order to win.
Players are trying to roll d12’s to get closer to the target number than the house’s roll, without going over. They start by rolling a single d12. If they have not ‘busted’ (gone over the target roll), they can roll another d12 and add their number to it. They can keep rolling d12’s and adding their number until they are satisfied, or until they bust.
If a player is proficient, they may add (not subtract) up to half of their proficiency bonus for performance deception or thievery rounded up to their final roll.
WINNING
If a player’s final roll is closer to the target number than the house’s roll, that player wins gold equal to their wager.
If a player busts, they lose their wager.
If a player is NOT closer to the target number than the house’s roll, they lose their wager.
If a player hits the target number exactly, they win gold equal to 1.5x their wager.
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCE
If the house rolls a 1 for their target number, all bets are collected immediately and a new round can begin.
Players may continue playing as long as they’d like, assuming they have gold to wager.
